Four countries, hundred stories. European history has been traditionally made by rivalries and alliances, encounters and misunderstandings, paths and borders, a complex process of relationships among countries and populations.
The countries involved in the Comenius Eurofest project have experienced many of these stories: Spain and Hungary shared a common dynasty for many years, United Kingdom enforced Spain troops against Napoleon’s army, and Southeast area in Spain was a province of the Byzantine Empire in the 6th and 7th centuries… But if we searched for a common period, the first half of 16th century would be especially outstanding: in that period Henry VIII, Charles V and Suleiman the Magnificent were at the top of their respective countries. They were considered as “heroes” or “pirates”, depending of the point of view… an inspiring way to be explored.
Now, time of turbulences, the EU promote the European citizenship through the mutual knowledge. It’s our responsibility to build bridges and links, to share questions and concerns, to be conscientious about other contexts recognizing the existing similarities and differences. Similarities make feel us members of a common culture. Differences enrich and enlarge our experiences.
